Thundr Text Chat. Talk Without Turning On Your Camera.
Start a one-on-one text conversation. Shared interests are optional. Video stays available if you want it later.
Direct answer
Can you use Thundr without video?
Yes. Thundr currently supports one-on-one text chat for people who do not want to turn on their camera.
You pick text before matching. The session is still one person at a time — messages instead of a live camera. Interests and available preferences can still sit in that matching flow. Last checked: September 2026.
The full sequence is on How Thundr Works. The broader Thundr Chat intro is on the homepage.
When typing is enough
Why choose text first?
- 01
Not camera-ready
You want to talk, but you do not want to turn the camera on yet.
- 02
Public or quiet place
A café, commute, or shared room is easier when the conversation stays in text.
- 03
Slower connection
Limited bandwidth can make a live camera session harder. Typing still works.
- 04
Prefer typing
Some people think in messages. Thundr currently supports that as a first mode.
- 05
Time before a reply
Text gives a beat to read and answer. Video is immediate; text is not.
Shared ground
Text chat through shared interests
Interests give two strangers a conversation starter — a topic already on the table. They do not guarantee a compatible match, a specific person, or a better result.
Two ways to talk
Text or video — switch based on how you want to talk
